Our highly trained staff and modern facilities are equipped to handle a wide variety of medical conditions, including emergencies. Rest assured your pet will receive a comprehensive examination by our doctors at every visit. Because we can perform many diagnostic procedures in-house and have a fully stocked pharmacy, we can often give you immediate answers and start treating your pet immediately. In some cases, your pet may require further diagnostic tests and hospitalization to ensure the best care possible.
Our in-house lab allows our doctors to look within your pet to gain a more complete picture of their health. These tests are an important tool for diagnosing and establishing a baseline for your pet at yearly visits.
Chemistry panels: assess kidney and liver function
CBC (Complete Blood Count): check for infection, dehydration, and anemia
Snap Tests: diagnosis of heartworm disease, pancreatitis, FIV and Feline Leukemia, and Parvovirus
Urinalysis with Sedimentation: diagnosis of urinary tract infections, urinary crystals/stones, and secondary indicators of kidney function
We also have a full-service outside lab that we utilize for more in-depth diagnostics such as thyroid testing, endocrine disease testing, and fecal analysis for intestinal parasites.
Imagine what your mouth would feel like if you never brushed your teeth or went to the dentist. For many dogs and cats, this is a painful reality. According to the American Veterinary Dental Society, more than 80% of dogs and 70% of cats have dental disease by the age of 3. Dental (or periodontal) disease is the most frequently diagnosed health problem in pets.
Common signs of dental disease include:
Yellow or brown buildup (tartar) on the teeth
Red, swollen, or bleeding gums
Bad breath
Excessive drooling
Changes in eating or chewing habits
Pawing at the face
During your pet’s comprehensive exam, the doctor will assess your pet’s teeth and gums to determine their dental needs, whether it be dental chews/treats or a full dental cleaning. Cleanings are performed under general anesthesia, with the latest surgical monitoring available. In addition, we perform dental radiographs with every procedure to investigate dental health below the gum line. This allows our doctors to be preventative in their approach and catch issues before they become visible. Learn more on our Dental Page.
In some cases, radiographs (x-rays) may be necessary to assist our doctors in making a diagnosis or ruling out the causes of disease. X-rays provide valuable information about a pet’s bones, gastrointestinal tract (stomach, intestines, and colon), respiratory tract (lungs), heart, and genitourinary system (bladder and prostate).
We are proud to offer digital radiology, which allows us to provide you with a quicker diagnosis for your pet while using less radiation than traditional x-rays. Digital images also allow our doctors to easily share images with specialists when needed.
If you’re concerned about an aspect of your pet’s behavior, we can help. We partner with local experts who work with you and your pet to deter negative behavior and reinforce positive habits. Many aggressive, fearful, or inappropriate behaviors in dogs and cats can be modified through a process of desensitization and counter-conditioning. These techniques can have a dramatic effect on your pet’s life and yours. Contact us for a behavioral consultation.
Ultrasonography (also called ultrasound or sonography) is a noninvasive, pain-free procedure used to examine a pet’s organs and other internal structures. It can be used to evaluate the heart, kidneys, liver, gallbladder, and bladder; to detect fluid, cysts, tumors, or abscesses; and to confirm and monitor pregnancy.
Our highly-skilled clinicians use ultrasonography in conjunction with radiography (x-rays) and other diagnostic methods to ensure a proper and thorough diagnosis for your pet and peace of mind for you.
Laser Therapy is a non-invasive method of therapy that uses a beam of light to reach target tissues without emitting heat. Laser Therapy is used to speed up the post-operative healing process, for wound healing, and to treat arthritis by decreasing inflammation and pain. Laser Therapy can be used alone or in conjunction with other modes of therapy to give your pet the most comprehensive care.
The ancient practice of acupuncture can also provide valuable benefits to your pet. Acupuncture for pets is a safe procedure that is virtually distress-free. Some indications a pet may benefit from animal acupuncture include arthritis, paralysis or other deficits from neck and back disease, torn ligaments, post-operative pain and healing, seizures, chronic kidney disease, and gastrointestinal disorders. The frequency of treatments is largely dependent on the patient's specific condition, but we usually start once or twice a week. Noticeable Improvement usually takes 3-5 sessions but sometimes changes are obvious from day one. If you think your pet would benefit from acupuncture treatment, contact us for more information.
